Comeytrowe Primary School

Taunton, Somerset

Futures for Somerset (the Somerset Local Education Partnership) have been appointed by Somerset County Council to deliver a new accommodation block as part of their strategic plans for education spaces in Somerset.

The new £7.3 million primary school planned for Taunton is set to become Somerset’s first net zero carbon school, and only the third ‘passivhaus’ school in the south west. Designed by Stride Treglown (Project Architect), environmental impact will be kept minimal in line with Somerset County Council’s commitment to make Somerset carbon neutral by 2030.

The new 14 classroom teaching block creates an additional 420 primary education spaces and 60 nursery places within the locality that will serve the Orchard Grove housing development in Comeytrowe and is needed to meet the expected demand for school spaces.

Futures for Somerset have appointed BAM Construction as the Principal Contractor for the project with an estimated start date of April 2022 with handover planned for the start of the 2023/24 academic year.
